Have you ever seen a post on social media about a negative experience someone had?
You probably have. Social media is wonderful in that it gives businesses a way to connect with new and existing clients. But it’s also a forum for those clients to provide their feedback, and more often than not, that feedback isn’t good.
People are much more likely to post about bad things that have happened to them over good things. As soon as one person mentions a negative experience, comments and suggestions come rolling in:

- “Boycott and tell your friends to do the same.”
In some cases, these suggestions are appropriate. There are always going to be bad apples in every industry.
But in many cases, this isn’t the most effective solution. Humans make mistakes and often, those mistakes are easily solvable. People want the opportunity to fix those concerns, especially if they weren’t aware of them in the first place. Discussing concerns with an owner or manager puts people on a path to getting what they need rather than just sharing a bad experience with others.
Your Dentist Isn’t Immune To Complaints
Dentistry is a required service for the majority of people. Dentists also get their share of complaints.
- “Dentists are money-suckers looking to make a quick buck!”
- “Dr. So-and-So shouldn’t be trusted!”
- “My dentist doesn’t know what they’re talking about!”
The truth is, dentists (and any other medical professional) go through years of extensive training to be able to provide the best possible level of care to every patient they see.
Is every dentist perfect? Of course not. Like in any industry, there are a few bad apples, but it doesn’t mean that every dentist is the same. Most people who enter the field are doing so because they genuinely want to make a difference.
Those years of extensive training mean that the service they are providing isn’t always cheap. Much like when you take your car to the shop, you’re not just paying for “parts” – labour is expensive, and it’s expensive because it takes a lot of time and commitment to be able to provide that service.

Regularly scheduling appointments gives you and your dentist the ability to catch potential cavities or infections before they get worse. X-rays are an amazing diagnostic tool and they’ve come a long way. The digital variety is fast, easy, and has less radiation than two bananas (yes, bananas contain radiation). There are also lasers that have the ability to detect cavities in their earliest stages. In some offices (like Dr. Stevens’s), dentists even use lasers to fix the cavity. They can also be used in addition to water-spraying instruments and antibiotics to treat bleeding gums.
What if my old dentist didn’t offer me the treatment that my new dentist is recommending?
Some dentists don’t know about the technology available and some don’t want to invest in the equipment because it’s very expensive to own. These dentists are treating their patients with what they have and know. This doesn’t mean that they’re bad at their jobs. It means that they are providing the best care they can at that time.
On the other hand, if a dentist has all of the latest technology, it doesn’t mean that you will receive super costly treatment. At the end of the day, it comes down to your dentist giving you their professional recommendations on what they think you should do.
